Our State Rep. Anne Hughes, who's made us proud as a champion of environmental protection and women's rights, and has always been a tireless advocate for us in Easton, is running for reelection. You can help her with a small donation of $15 so she can qualify for Citizen Election Program campaign funding.
Next week at the special Town Meeting, we'll have the chance to accept a $396,000 grant from the state to use as part of our Easton EMS renovations. This grant was made possible in no small part by Anne's hard work with Democratic leadership at the state level.
When asked at her recent reelection kickoff event about her legislative focus, Anne said, "You center the policy around protecting those who are most impacted and work out from there..listening to people's lived experiences and taking that person-centered approach and bringing it to the underlying systems that have barriers."
Anne has long been a strong supporter of environmental protection. She recently joined Governor Lamont at the CT League of Conservation Voters Environmental Summit, where the agenda included updating Connecticut's Global Warming Solutions Act to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and programs on how conservation, restoration, and sustainable management can mitigate impacts of climate change, protect biodiversity, and provide major co-benefits to communities. A longtime advocate for climate action and measures to protect the environment, Anne has earned perfect ratings of 100% on CTLCV’s Environmental Scorecard and is among a select group of state legislators who have been honored as an “Environmental Champion” for leadership on key climate legislation in 2022.
Anne also recently celebrated West COG's grant from the CT DOT to invest in Safe Streets traffic safety measures across the district (Easton, Weston, Redding) and joined advocates to push for the extension of free school meals for kids. Anne joined other legislators and the End Hunger CT! Coalition in advocating for funds to ensure the program that delivers kids breakfast and lunch at school will not expire at the end of the year.
